Bellevue acupuncture clinic - About

Dr. Weiqun Miao – Bellevue, WA. Acupunturist

My name is Weiqun Miao, Mia is my nickname. I am a Washington State licensed acupuncturist (East Asian Medicine Practitioner, EAMP) and a NCCAOM Diplomate of Oriental Medicine, which certifies the practice of acupuncture, Chinese herbology and Asian bodywork therapy.

I have been practicing Chinese Medicine since 1991, which includes 17 years of practice specialized in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at a general hospital in China from 1991 to 2007, and 5 years of practice in Seattle, Washington since 2007. In 2007 I was invited by Seattle Institute of Oriental Medicine (SIOM) to teach Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), so I left China and settled in Seattle teaching Chinese herbal medicine, internal medicine, gynecology and acupuncture, as well as supervising interns at SIOM from September 2007 to August 2012. Currently I maintain an active clinical practice in Bellevue, Washington.

I had my medical training in China, which included thorough training in both Western medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine. I earned a diploma in Chinese Medicine from Zhejiang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (1986-1991). After a decade of practicing Chinese medicine, I wanted to broaden my understanding to include the Western medical approach so I went on to receive 5 years of training in Western Medicine at Zhejiang University School of Medicine (2001-2005), and earned an MD degree. I continued with some advanced training in Chinese herbal medicine for 8 years by apprenticing under Dr. Zheng Lu, an internationally recognized practitioner.

Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine

The primary modalities I use are a variety of Acupuncture techniques (including Moxabustion, Cupping and Gua Sha), herbal therapy using Chinese herbal medicine, and Asian bodywork (Chinese massage). When indicated, treatments can include life cultivation practices such as exercises, dietary therapy or lifestyle advice. The primary goal is to support and maintain physiological balance through gentle forms of body stimulation. My background as a medical doctor in China and a TCM practitioner allows me to have an integrative view of illness and how to better manage the condition. I place great emphasis on providing both holistic and individualized care to each person’s specific condition.
